The healing power of joy
Laughter, they say, is the best medicine. And on a spontaneous Thursday night adventure in Provincetown, I was reminded of how true that saying is. My aunt and uncle, their adventurous souls, convinced me to trade my usual evening routine for a night filled with laughter and unforgettable memories.
Our journey began at 9 PM when we decided to head out for an unexpected night on the town. While this might not be my typical Thursday night plan, we were all well-rested and energetic, making it the perfect time for an adventure. Our destination? The Governor Bradford, where the charismatic Dana Danzel was hosting a lively karaoke night.
As we strolled up Commercial Street, the heart of Provincetown, the town’s vibrant energy enveloped us. We couldn’t resist grabbing a few slices of pizza at Spiritus to fuel our night of merriment. With our stomachs satisfied, we continued down Commercial Street to the Post Office Cafe and Cabaret for a bingo game. The bar was wrapping up the company party; most celebrated another summer season ending as the first day of fall rolled in. Then, off to Old Colony Tap, one of the oldest bars in Provincetown. In this place, even the legendary Anthony Bourdain proclaimed that this is “the bar fishermen come to drink,” and they had live entertainment.
Our laughter-filled night didn’t stop there. We made a pit stop back at the Governor Bradford for one final pint. The bartender, with a warm smile, asked us how our night was. I couldn’t help but reflect on the incredible warmth and hospitality that Provincetown always offers.
What made this night truly special was that I was the third wheel at my aunt and uncle’s anniversary celebration. While some might have felt out of place, I couldn’t have been happier. Sharing their goofy moments and participating in their joy-filled celebration was a blast.
It was on this unforgettable night that I was reminded of the profound power of laughter. Amid our hectic lives, it’s easy to get caught up in our routines and work responsibilities. But sometimes, pushing work aside for a day of laughter and connection is just what the doctor ordered. Laughter has a unique ability to heal, to bring people closer, and to create cherished memories.
Provincetown, with its lively atmosphere and welcoming spirit, provided the perfect backdrop for this laughter-filled adventure. It’s a place where joy is not just found but actively sought after and shared freely with everyone you meet.
So, the next time you need a little pick-me-up, consider trading your routine for a night of laughter and connection. Whether it’s karaoke, bingo, or simply sharing a pint with loved ones, remember that laughter truly is the best medicine, and it’s a prescription that’s always worth filling.
